I Blew It...

The Jehovah's Witnesses were out today, canvasing the neighborhood. I tried to avoid them but the old lady and her very young helper hung around until I popped out into the garage. I noticed them and quickly scooted back in. Too late! She rang the bell and I got to talk to...well...she did most of the talking.

Anyways...

She went on and on about how the earth was once a paradise and how God was going to suck all the evil people off the earth and how governments were killing the earth and how...well...the bottom line was she was well on her way to telling me that this earth, the one we are on today, will, once again, become a paradise for all of us to live on.

I said, "This earth?"

She said, "Yes."

I said, "This earth is going to be destroyed. A new heaven and a new earth will be created. Read your Revelations."

(Revelation 21:1
[ The New Heaven and the New Earth ] Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.

See also....

Isaiah 65:17
[ New Heavens and a New Earth ] "For behold, I create new heavensand a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind.

2 Peter 3:13
But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.)

She said, "Oh" and then "Have a nice day." Then left.

What I really should have said was...

"We believe all life resulted from a giant sneeze by the Great Green Arkleseizure and we're waiting for the return of the Great White Handkerchief"....

That's what I should have said! ;)

What difference does it make?

You need to work on your attitude.

You need to listen to the Witnesses when they come to your door.

And why should I listen to what the JW's have to say when it's a false gospel? Paul tells us to reject any gospel other than the one we read in the Bible. The one he, Paul and Jesus proclaimed.

But I guess if you write your own Bible and modify it to prove you're the 144,000, the chosen few, then why would you need to go door-to-door hawking a magazine and preaching that this world will be saved when clearly it will be destroyed?

And I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you!

You've forgotten one of the two greatest things...

1. Never get involved in a land war in Asia and

2. Never go in against a JW when Jesus is on the line!!

As for my attitude...it's mine. I'll change it when I want or when God requires me to.

BTW...I dealt with this lady with grace and kindness. Not my fault she left when confronted with the facts...

Now...if you have anything else to say...say it to yourself.

(How's that for attitude!!)

Satirically and Sarcastically Yours,

Eric

JWs did not write their own bible.
The same doctrines are from the ASV and KJV bible which was used for many years.

And a particular bible is not used to prove we are the 144,000.

Yes, the ungodly world will be destroyed, but the faithful will be saved.

As I said, you need to listen to Jehovah's Witnesses as you do not know anything.

I've heard much about the "new earth" which the witnesses understand to be the new earthly paradise to come in which righteousness will dwell and over whom the 144,000 kings in heaven will rule, but what are the "new heavens" that will replace the old heavens which will pass away"? What does that mean?

S said...

The New Heavens is the new government by which the 144,000 and Jesus will rule.

Thank you, Voice of Reason. Actually, I was asking how Eric understands this. Since the earth will "clearly be destroyed" (as you wrote above), then heaven will also ? ? ?

S said...

No, CAT, the earth will not be destroyed, and neither will the heavens. No need.

It means that the wicked people and the governments will be eliminated.

When I wrote the 'the ungodly world will be destroyed', I meant that the wicked people, not the earth.

Look at the verses Cat...

Revelation 21:1-2 - "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Rev 21:11 - Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away and no place was found for them.

This is at the end of the 1000 year reign. Who'll be around for that? Those who are saved...including the 144,000 of the tribes of Israel.

The 144,000 refer to the 12,000 members of the 12 Tribes of Israel who will be saved in the end. It refers to no one else but them. (Rev 7)

For the JW's reading here...Quoting Psalms and Proverbs out of context does not eliminate prophetic announcements in Revelations and Daniel. Poetry, imagery, and other literary constructs used by the writers of the Psalms and Proverbs are there to paint a picture for us of what the ideal earth/heaven paradigm will look like.

Bottom line, this place is doomed. It will all pass away. A "new heaven" and "new earth" means the "old heaven" and "old earth" (that which we are living on) will be replaced, destroyed, eliminated, passed away, joined the bleeding choir invisible, pushing up daisies, they are, to paraphrase John Cleese from Monty Python, ex-places. They aren't pining for a world without our current government or the ungodly.

BTW...we may have many corrupt people in government...that's the nature of power and corruption. But put this in your pipe and smoke it...

Romans 13:1 - Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.

Cat,

There is so much about the end of the world we do know about and so much we don't know about...such as the "when". John's Revelation on the isle of Patmos had to seem so fantastical to him that writing it down was a divine feat. Things he'd never seen nor could comprehend had to be conveyed through imagery. It was the only way to describe the incredible things he saw.

I do know this. Only one way to heaven. Only one way to reside with God. That is the one way of Jesus Christ. John 14:6 - Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

And VOR...I listened and I've listened. Not many years ago I was a student of apologetics. I know that which I believe and that which my opponents believe. I may have been out of the game for some time, but I do know this, the JW's have twisted scripture to make themselves the "chosen ones". Sorry...twisted scripture is...well...twisted scripture.

And thus ends the argument on this thread about JW theology. Frankly, I do not have the energy to argue this anymore. I learned long ago, arguing theology is no way to win a person's heart or mind. You believe what you believe. I believe what I believe. I'll tell you all day long what I believe and back it up. You'll not change my mind nor will I change yours. That's not my job. That's God's.

Except that after Jesus died, Israel is no more. Israel rejected Jesus so his father, Jehovah rejected them.

But he had a covenant with the seed of Abraham. So Israel became Israel of the spirit, Christians.

Those 144,000 are Christians in a covenant with God.

No they're not.

Eric,

You can't do any better than that?

Yes I can.
